Deep Silver has announced that Metro 2033 is available for free on Steam for a limited time. From today and until March 15th, PC gamers can visit its official Steam store page and acquire their free copy.

2. A new week and new offers in the video game stores Steam and Epic Games. For a limited time, two new games are available for free and you can keep them forever. On the one hand the post-apocalyptic game ‘Metro 2033’ on Steam, on the other the survival game ‘Surviving Mars’ on the Epic Games store.

Metro 2033 Available for Free Download on Steam. The game will remain free for only a few days, precisely until March 15th of this year. We must also specify that important discounts are also available on the entire Metro franchise such as the Metro Redux version of the game discounted by 80%, Metro Last Light at 80%, and the bundle with all the games of the series at a 66% discount.

Metro 2033 is the first game in the critically acclaimed Metro series and has since seen two more titles that captured the hearts of many horror fans over the years. Now, with Metro Exodus' next-generation port coming soon to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, it is the perfect time to revisit the series where it first began back in 2010.

Thankfully, that just got a lot easier for PC players, as the original version of Metro 2033 is completely free to add to one's Steam Library for a limited time. In celebration of a massive sale surrounding the Metro series on Steam, Metro 2033 will be free until March 15 at 10 AM PT or 1 PM ET.

For those who may not be familiar with the Metro series, it is a first-person shooter survival horror series set in post-apocalyptic Russia. Metro 2033 is based on a post-apocalyptic fiction novel written by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. Metro 2033 is the first game in the series, which follows a 24-year-old Russian man named Artyom who sets out into the ruined Metro system in search of help for his home. The series is unique for a number of reasons, such as its Russian setting and detailed world and environments.

Metro 2033 itself provides a very strong opening act that paved the way for the larger story of the Metro series that continued on with Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus. Though Metro 2033 is about 11 years old now, the game still looks solid for being over a decade old. Unfortunately, the free version of Metro 2033 offered on Steam isn't the Redux version, which offered remastered versions of both Metro 2033 and its sequel Metro: Last Light. Still, snagging Metro 2033 is wholly worthwhile even if players aren't planning to download and play it for some time.

Coincidentally, this isn't the first time that Metro 2033 has been completely free for PC players, as recently the Epic Games Store offered it for free last December. Now, players who don't use the Epic Games Store have a chance to play the game without having to download a completely new storefront. However, it is worth mentioning that those who aren't fans of the horror genre may be a bit overwhelmed by Metro 2033. Despite the game's age, it still offers quite an intense experience, with plenty of scares packed into its dark, claustrophobic environments.

Though, fans of games like the more recent Resident Evil titles or The Evil Within will probably find a lot to love in Metro 2033. Players that try out Metro 2033 and like what the game has to offer will also be pleased to know that the Metro series still has more to offer, as the developers behind the Metro series, 4A Games, still have plans to work on future titles. However, it seems like 4A Games may be going in a different direction with the next entry, as apparently 4A Games' next Metro title will involve multiplayer in some capacity. Regardless, interested players should absolutely set aside a bit of time to add Metro 2033 to their Steam libraries for free before the offer ends on March 15.
